Build Bridges for America

The purpose: to assist communities in observing the anniversary of the Sept. 11t, 2001 terrorist attacks, Ramadan, Eid, the Holiday season, and Black History month in a meaningful and collaborative way which will enhance our freedom and liberty by building bridges of understanding and an appreciation of diversity.

The main thrust of the campaign will be on working with others instead of doing things within the Muslim community.

Planing for the campaign
Planning is the key to direct the individual and collective resources of your community in this direction. Here are some tips:

• Include people in planning and implementation who have organized open houses, been involved in media relations and interfaith contacts.
• Pick the best organizers in your community
• Before meeting, distribute the outline of ideas provided in this document and invite others to share ideas before the meeting.
• Contact all those who came to console you after 9/11 and ask them for their suggestions and ideas about the 9/11 anniversary, Ramadan, and Eid-related communication with society at large.
• It is good idea to pick a few events which you can really focus on and do a good job with. You can select these events from this list or any other set of ideas.
• Make sure responsibilities, teams and budgets are clearly defined.

Five Phases of the Campaign

• Know your neighbor campaign (August to October)
• Sept. 11 Anniversary period (September)
• Ramadan and Eid season (October & November)
• Holiday season (November & December)
• Black History month & Civil Rights (January & February)

We will be discussing items number 1 and 2 in detail. Information regarding the other three points will soon follow.

As you can see, we have a catalog of ideas. Please pick any idea from this list or adopt any other idea. What is important is to relate and connect to our surroundings instead of being absent and silent.
